Story
My Dad Graeme Simpson (41) tested positive for Covid on the 22nd December 2020 on day 13 of his recovery on the 3rd January 2021 he suffered what we thought was a seizure at the time and was taken to our local hospital all alone as the restrictions due to Covid would not allow us to go with him.
At 3am we had a call to say while Dad was in the A & E unit he had suffered a huge MCA stroke on his left side of his brain and was in resus. Dad was transferred to the NHNN in London and we were informed the next 3-5 days were critical.
We are now 5 weeks into his recovery and have a long way yet to go with months and months ahead of us of rehabilitation for Dad as a inpatient.
My Dad’s parietal lobe has been severely affected and he has quite a journey ahead of him to regain his speech, mobility, and cognitive skills.
We are so proud of what Dad has achieved so far but understand that it’s not going to be a straight forward fix.
We are so grateful for all the medical assistance Dad has received this far and will continue to benefit from over the coming months.
We as a family wanted to give back a little by raising funds for the amazing work and support that the Stroke Association provide to families just like ours.
There are 1.2 million stroke survivors living in the UK. we are taking on the Stride for Stroke challenge and walking 1.2 million steps in 120 days, to raise funds and help provide support for those in need.
