Story
Alicia, Victoria, Alex, Flynn, Olivia and Nathan from the Harry Clasper Wetherspoon in Whickham are taking part in HIKE, this years flagship challenge for Wetherspoon staff across the UK. We will be trekking Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain with a summit of 4,411 feet, on 10th May 2023 to raise funds Young Lives vs Cancer. This charity helps children and young people age 0-25 years old and their families to find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, the overwhelming money issues, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to. Everyday 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. With your help we can help them face it together!
This charity does not receive any government funding, so they rely fully on the generosity and kindness of people just like you :)
Here’s how the money raised can make a difference to young cancer patients and their families:
£22 could pay for a YOUNG LIVES v CANCER big bag given to families when their child is first diagnosed. This includes very essential items required for hospital stays.£23 could pay for a Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker to be there soon after diagnosis, giving a family one-to-one support

£38 could pay for a night in one of their Home from Homes. This is a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment
£100 could pay for a Young Lives vs Cancer grant to meet the sudden extra costs that cancer can bring
£182 could pay for a YLvC social worker for an entire day
£266 could pay for a family to stay close to hospital for a week in a Young Lives vs Cancer Home from Home.
Wetherspoon have proudly supported Young Lives vs Cancer since 2002 and have raised over £21 million for the charity. We hope that by taking on this hiking challenge our fundraising total will reach the next million pound milestone.
