The Gin Tarts - Our story
We are Vanessa & Tracy & we have both been affected by Dementia. We have seen first-hand the slow and painful way this terrible disease gradually takes loved ones away (both mentally & physically) from everything they know; their family, their home, their interests & eventually their life. Although – at the time of writing – our respective parents (Vanessa’s mum, Tracy’s dad) are still with us, arguably they are no longer with us. It affects the whole family big time, not just the sufferer, & it’s about time Dementia was kicked into touch!
As you will guess from our ‘Team’ title, we do like a drink. As for the ‘Tarts’…..well, we like a sweet treat too! So, after a reasonable amount of wine one evening, we decided to take on this Brecon Beacons Trek challenge to do something positive in the fight back against Dementia. We checked the small print & lured by the promise of a glass of bubbly at the end of the trek (the medal a bonus), it all seemed like a jolly good idea at the time!
Sensibly (even in the wine haze) we opted for the 13-mile route (it is up a mountain!) rather than the 26 miler – we are the kind of girls after all who might find a stroll to the fridge occasionally challenging. So, we’re on the straight & narrow – the recycling bins are empty, the fridge is packed with protein rich food & we are taking our training very seriously.
We are really looking forward to the challenge (& that glass of champagne promised at the finish line) so please support us (no matter how little) do something to help raise money for this very worthwhile cause.
Together we can make a difference.
