Raising money for LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support

Story

Our story

Me and my brothers are running the Barcelona marathon for charity in honour of our amazing mum, Katherine Hartley, who sadly died of breast cancer in 2011. She was a loving mother who radiated positivity and always cared for others before she ever thought of herself. She also ran 3 marathons herself along with biking china for charity and sailing the world. She has been missed by us all but we’ve learnt to live not without her but with the love she’s left behind. We hope to carry on her sense of adventure while also raising awareness for an important cause in the process. On average someone is diagnosed with cancer at least every 90 seconds in the UK and current cancer care provision is approaching a crisis point. At the moment existing support services are struggling to cope, yet the number of people living with cancer continues to grow. We are running for both Loros Hospice and McMillan Cancer Support. Two charities that provide essential care to cancer patients and their families to help combat this problem. They helped to provide our family with care we might not of otherwise of gotten and helped us to be where we are today. We hope this fundraiser can help provide others with the same opportunities and support, so no one or their families have to struggle alone when dealing with cancer. Any donation is massively appreciated and will go to helping those who need it most and also give us more motivation in training! Whichever one you want to donate too is up to you and If we could keep the donations equal that would be great too. The plan:

Date: 10th of march

location: Barcelona

Time: 08:00hours

Mission: Operation Survive - Last 26.2 miles through the hopefully not so sweltering streets of Barcelona and complete our first marathon in under 4 hours. Training updates will be posted in the run up to the event, stay tuned.

More information on the charities can be found below. Any help is appreciated, big or small, even just sharing this fundraising link is hugely appreciated. Gracias!

Loros

LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay. They deliver free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers. They deliver care that is special and unique to each individual. They helped our mother and family more than can ever be repaid. The charity is also committed to research in order to improve the understanding and practice of palliative care and is a charity we really believe in .

Macmillan

Right now, more than 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 this figure will rise to 4 million. Macmillan aims to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, by providing physical, financial and emotional support from providing free counselling sessions to grants. No matter what a person's needs are, they are there to listen and support them however they need big or small. They helped provide a caretaker for us while we were young which helped us a family tremendously. In 2022, their services reached and supported an estimated 2 million people living with cancer.

Thank-you for your support and taking your time to read the page, it means alot.
