Story
Thank you for supporting my team page. I am going to do something a little different this year. I will spend my 24 hours backpacking through Pinyon-Juniper woodlands in search of Pinyon Jays. Pinyon Jays primarily live in this habitat; the habitat is found throughout Nevada but only at certain elevations.
I will be using GBBO's Pinyon Jay data collection tool to enter data on presence/absence. This tool was created for any of us to use. By heading out to look for jays and entering data, my hope is to capture valuable data for GBBO's scientists that use this data and spend time in this habitat.
Pinyon-Juniper (or "PJ") woodland is a life zone/plant community that is not very high in bird species richness; I would be surprised if I log over 50 bird species by staying in this one habitat for the entire time. However, I will run likely run into birds that depend on this habitat, like Gray Vireo and Juniper Titmouse, get to know the flowers, and hopefully run into mammals and reptiles.
Thanks for reading along to this point, and I really look forward to backpacking and camping in the Spring Mountains for conservation this Birdathon.
