Story
Geraint Thomas, a former Tour de France winner, recently completed three consecutive 12-hr days on a stationary bike. He was quoted afterwards to say:
“I am going to have a week off to recover from this. It was 36 hours in the saddle over three days which would normally be a big training week for me. The longest ride I have done on the road is eight hours and 20 minutes in a group and that was with a coffee stop. On a turbo the longest was three hours and there is a lot of difference from that and riding outside where you have the scenery and downhill.”
At 10am on Sunday 17th May, I'll sit on my turbo-trainer and (with the exception of toilet breaks and shorts changes) won't get off for 24-hours. The longest I have ever ridden is 9 hours - outdoors, with several stops.
I mean.. I like cycling, but this will be the biggest physical and mental challenge of my life. I hope I still like cycling afterwards...
Sector bodies estimate that charities will miss out on at least £4.3bn of income over a 12-week period this year. The government has released funds and grants to support them, but the numbers mean several will not be able to continue operating, let alone support people in need.
At the best of times, the three charities I've chosen represent causes which deeply affect a huge number of people across the UK - and make a real meaningful difference to their lives. The issues they represent are often underrepresented in the media, but are hugely important and ever-present. Now they need funding more than ever, so I'm doing my bit.
You've all probably donated to several causes over the past few weeks, so you're already awesome. But you've read this far, so why not donate a little more ;-)
I'll have the donation amount on the screen in front of me. I can guarantee the motivation will help!
