About #TeamTiernan
In March 2020 our 13 year-old son (and brother) Tiernan was diagnosed with 'ALL' (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukeamia). Like every family who's child is diagnosed with a serious illness, when we were told is was suspected Leukeamia it was a complete shock and it left the family in turmoil. His diagnosis came at the worst possible time during the COVID outbreak and his chemotherapy is ongoing during this difficult time.
From the outpouring of support we received from friends and family of Tiernan one thing about people's opinion of him shone through and that was his physical and mental strength. As his treatment continues he uses this strength each day to overcome the many challenges that are thrown at him and he's faced this illness with positivity, humour and a maturity beyond his years.
From early on following his diagnosis Tiernan was keen to give back to the many organisations that are currently helping him. We had some long discussions on how any fundraising could be used. Tiernan was undecided but one thing he was sure about was that the aim shouldn't be to help him but to help the organisations helping him and other children in his position and to fund research to overcome this terrible disease.
We therefore decided on a cluster of four charities; all of whom we know will have an impact on the lives of other cancer patients now and in the future.
CLIC SARGENT - Providing support to families affected by Cancer
CANDLELIGHTERS - A Yorkshire based charity dedicated to fighting children's cancer and assisting the affected families
TEENAGE CANCER TRUST - Providing young people with Cancer specialist care and support.
CCLG - Children's Cancer & Leukeamia Group. The experts in childhood cancer who's aim is to shape the future to ensure all children survive and live independent lives.
What Can You Do?
We're encouraging all of Tiernan's friends, family and teammates to get involved in #TeamTiernan We'll be taking part in lots of smaller events as a family but we'd also love you to get involved. Our first event will be a sponsored head shave and we'd love as many of you as possible to shave your heads and show your support by sharing your photo on social media with the hashtag #TeamTiernan (many of you may also find this quite useful during the COVID lockdown!). It would be even better if you could conduct your own fundraising as part of this #TeamTiernan event. Just share what you're doing along with this fundraising link to your friends and family. Why not also make it a public event and 'Go Live' on Facebook or other social media.
Which Charity?
We think all four charities are incredible and we'd love each charity to receive equal donations however we of course realise that one of the charities may be closer to your heart therefore the choice is yours.
Whatever you do, please keep Tiernan in your thoughts and prayers and get behind him during his treatment. We know that your support and love will give him strength to fight this cancer.
With Love,
Team Tiernan (Nick, Christina, Caitlin and Caelan) x x x x
