Story
There are a number of reasons as to why people want to be part of a sports club such as; for fun, to meet people, to learn a new skill, or to look after one's physical health. Often, we may forget that our mental well-being is just as important as our physical health. Statistics have proved time and time again that exercise is one way of ensuring good mental well-being as well as physical health. As a sports club, I think it is important that we continue to promote and encourage others to engage in sports such as rowing to help one another. I believe SRC can help to raise money for charities who support individuals who struggle with their mental health, and here is how…
Over the month of March 2023, members of Southsea Rowing Club, plus friends and family will engage in a variety of activities to collect km. This can be in the form of; walking, running, swimming, cycling, rowing and many more. This can include every km we do at indoor training, water sessions and head races.
To highlight the fact that mental health challenges, and suicide rates in particular are a cause for concern across the entire world, Southsea Rowing Club will be collecting the distance between England and Australia. This will be a total of 15,195 km across 31 days.
Our two chosen charities are: PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide, and TONIC Music for Mental Health.
