Story
Savannah is 6 years old and full of energy! You will very rarely see her without a big smile on her face while she either sings her latest favorite song or draws you a picture that will be sure to blow your mind! She is the best big sister to Dylan and is always there for him when he needs his sissy.
On May 8th, our lives were changed when we got the call from Savannah’s school letting us know she had a seziure in class and was being brought to Albany Med by ambulance. They sent us home after 12 hours in the ER telling us to follow up with her pediatrician and a neurologist- and then basically told us “everyone is allowed 1”.
12 days later, Savannah was about to brush her teeth and get ready for her tee—ball game when we heard a big thud coming from the bathroom. When we got to her, she was having another seizure on the floor. We took her back to the hospital and stayed the weekend waiting for further testing. She was then diagnosed with Absence and General Tonic Clonic Seizures- in short- Epilepsy.
This new diagnosis has forced us to change our lifestyle and think of things we never had to think of before. We are constantly on guard, making sure she is feeling ok and trying to prevent further seizures.
Most recently, she made it 6 weeks seizure free until her 3rd and 4th seizure happened while she was at basketball camp. Unfortunately, she had a virus (without symptoms) which lowered her seizure threshold and she was admitted to Albany Med once again for a medication load and modification.
Its been a bumpy road and the constant stress of not knowing when its going to happen next has been Hell. We are confident she is in good hands with her neurologist, and with the help of medication and monitoring her blood levels, she could eventually grow out of this terrible condition. But until then, we are committed to raising funds to find a cure!
