Story
We found that cycling during COVID19 lockdown was a good way to get exercise and spend time with family whilst easily maintaining the social distance rules set. My grandchildren were all missing their various sporting clubs including football, netball & gymnastics so we started bike riding together. “Cycle Saturday” was born and soon became our own “Popsy Pedallers” cycle group!
I have been a sponsor & supporter of the Guide Dogs charity for sometime as I have always admired the amount of training and commitment it takes to tap into a dogs intelligence and train them to be so fantastically helpful for those in need. My family have unfortunately experienced a range of eye issues in the past and you never know when you might need to call on a charity in your time of need.
I have always had a love of dogs and wanted to be a police dog handler in my youth! As a family, we currently have 4 labradors (although these are most definitely not working dogs!) They are fantastic characters, brilliant company and we would never be without them.
Guide dogs emailed me a charity challenge email advertising “100 for Guide Dogs” where you can choose your own challenge to Run100, Cycle100 or Swim100 between 1 July and 31 November. It doesn’t matter if you complete 100 metres, 100 minutes or 100 days!
So, our challenge, we will cycle 100miles for Guide dogs! Just £100 could pay for five hours' training at a Guide Dogs training school which in time will make a huge difference to someone with sight loss.

2nd August update..... we beat our longest ride!
16.7 miles completed this weekend. Lovely riding weather and beautiful views along the Ship Wright Way. Was a different group as Popsy (Trev) was in isolation pending eye surgery. 😢
15th August - update!
so.... no miles completed last weekend due to the incredibly hot weather and Popsy having his eye surgery, which has been a success! So today, we completed another 15km!
Total distance update; 81km/50 miles complete!
23/8/2020 - we topped our furthest distance again!! 17.6 miles complete today!
Today we encountered some after effects of the recent stormy weather and found a DINOSAUR!!
Apologies for not updating the page, we had a mini family holiday, all 10 of us plus the 4 labradors! So we didnt cycle last week, we walked miles and found beautiful beaches, we also bumped into a real life working guide dog! This is Mel Braddick and her gorgeous 6 year old guide dog, Briar! We approached Mel (socially distanced of course) when we noticed Briar’s working harness and told her all about our fund raising, Mel was hugely grateful and explained to Eden, Evie & Harry how important Briar is to her and how she has gained so much confidence and independance from having a guide dog for the past 4 years. It was a fantastic boost to hear her story and how important our efforts are.
6/9/2020 - Evie‘s broken two bones in her foot! She doesnt always join in the rides but due to visiting a&e today for an xray, we didnt have a great deal of time to fit in a big ride. Still, another 9km ticked off the list!
Current total; 79.8 miles !!
20/9/2020 - Harry led the way today - lots of off road adventures, sand & ditches! A quick stop to say hi to a friends horses = 9 miles complete!
Current total; 88.8 miles !!
3/10/2020 - after a wet morning at footie with a break in the rain we popped out for “a couple of miles” 10 miles later we got home!
With less than 2 miles to complete our 100 mile challenge - we will head out tomorrow for a team finish!
These two have been fantastic throughout!
WE HAVE FINISHED!! 100 MILES!!!!
