Story

Dad/Tim was never more content than when he was outside in the fresh air; wrapped up, whisky in hand, watching the kites circle overhead, taking in the views. He spent his last couple of months within the beautiful surroundings of Saint Michael’s Hospice which was the perfect retreat.

The relief we all felt for him after the trauma of hospital, is not easy to put into words but was far greater than any of us anticipated. As a family, each and every one of us was shown so much compassion and support by the amazing nurses and staff- it wasn’t just Dad but his entire entourage that they took care of!

Despite the fact he was so very poorly, the colour quickly returned to his cheeks when he realised he could have a daily tour of the grounds in his custom-made wheelchair! All thanks to the hospice navigating the way for him, he was able to find a quality at the end of his life that none of us could have foreseen but that we are eternally grateful for.

We feel so passionately about Saint Michael’s, that all our fundraising efforts will go toward ensuring that other families will be carried through such a traumatic time, in as gentle and reassuring way as we were.

Dad touched the lives of so many people in his lifetime, always leaving a lasting impression. We hope, through our fundraising, to continue to do the same in his honour. We cannot thank you enough for being a part of Dad’s legacy. He would be truly humbled to know his memory and fight inspired something so positive.

Saint Michael's supports people living in Harrogate and Ripon district to get the end of life care and bereavement support they want, need and deserve. We help over 2000 local people each year and make no charge. Each year we must raise nearly £7 million - we rely on your fundraising and support.
We are taking part in the Great North Run for Saint Michael's Hospice. The biggest half marathon in the world, will you support us by donating to local charity, Saint Michael's Hospice?

£10 will help ensure that patients who find getting to our hospice difficult can still attend vital appointments by keeping our patient transport on the road.

£50 can help a child or young person to live with the death of a loved one, with a one to one support session with an experienced support worker.

£150 will help someone living with terminal illness get the support they need in the comfort of their own home, with the help of a week of visits from members of the Saint Michael's outreach team.
