In December 2023 my 6 year old niece (and tiny best bud) Phoebe, was diagnosed with Leukaemia whilst on holiday in Australia.

I flew out on Christmas day to offer emotional and practical support as we navigated this awful news. (Do not recommend flying 22 hours on your own, on Christmas day after finding out someone you love has cancer!!! TEARS!!!)

It was an extremely stressful time that involved myself, my brother, sister-in-law and 3 year old nephew getting "stuck" down under from December 2023 until about March 2024.

We spent many sleepless nights on the other side of the world without our support network, fearing the worst and hoping for the best.

Despite this being a complete living nightmare, we were lucky in the fact that we were removed from daily homely responsibilities of work, bills, childcare and the mundane running of the household. I was able to help out with the day-to-day which allowed my Brother and Sister-in-law to be the amazing parents they are to Phoebe.

With all this in mind I couldn't help but think of the families with sick relatives that had no choice but to go to work, book their MOT's, pay their bills, take their children to school, do the food shop, cook their meals etc. All medial tasks that paled in comparison to what was happening on the ward, day in and day out.

So with that in mind, this August 2024, I am taking on a Mighty Hike along the Rob Roy Way to raise vital funds for people living with cancer.

My adoring partner, Ross and bestest buds, Louise, Suzi, Kenny, Mikey and Cara are all teaming up to complete this Marathon hike together and I'm so unbelievably grateful for their love and support over the last 7 months.

I have pledged to raise £1500 and would appreciate any support in reaching this. By fundraising my pledge, I could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for two days who could provide emotional, practical and financial advice to someone affected by cancer.

I am pleased to say that Phoebe returned to Scotland (via a 1st class flight at that!) earlier this year where she is undergoing treatment and responding well.

One day she'll be old enough to tell her own story but for the meantime this is ours.
