Event: Race the Sun Lake District Coniston Off-Road 2024, on 13 July 2024
From dawn to dusk, take on the Lake District’s mixed terrain with an exciting off-road bike section, before completing the hiking and water stage in this triathlon-style team challenge.

Story

Tom, Karl, Sam and Charlene, (Team Paramount) will be literally "Racing the Sun" in a ‘dawn til dusk’ challenge on July 13th all in the name of Charity.

We will be taking part, as a team of four, in an off road challenge which starts with a gruelling 23 mile off road (very hilly, bumpy and uncomfortable) mountain bike ride in the lake district mountains around the town of Coniston. When we get back to town, there will be no time to put our feet up as we will have a quick shoe change and proceed to hike up to the top of Old Man Coniston (a vertical 2362ft of hiking)! After that and the 2362ft wobbly leg descent, we will be taking off our boots and jumping straight in a boat to row 2 miles of Lake Coniston.

It is going to be a long, hard day with a very early start and a late day finish. For those of you that don’t know Coniston, the hike alone takes the average person around 4 hours.

We are taking on this unusual challenge in the name of the absolutely fantastic charity, Action For Medical Research for Children.

Action for Medical Research are a UK-wide charity who help fund vital research to help sick and disabled babies and children. They fight for answers that can lead to cures, treatments and medical breakthroughs for some of the toughest and rarest fights that our countries children face.

One of the many reason we are doing this is because, as Costs Lawyers/Draftsmen working in Clinical Negligence Litigation, we frequently see the most heartbreaking of injuries and diseases caused by childbirth that has sadly not gone as planned. According to the Charity, each year 55,000.00 babies in the UK are born preterm and sadly more than 1000 babies die as a result. For those that do survive, they have an increased risk of cerebral palsy, visual impairment, hearing loss and learning difficulties. Action For Medical are conducting research into understanding how labour starts to uncover new ways to prevent spontaneous preterm birth. This research is just one of the very many things the Charity look into, in addition to currently incurable Childhood Cancers and fighting rare diseases.

Please help us to raise money for such a wonderful cause and help ‘Team Paramount’ with the motivation we need to get training and complete the challenge together.

A penny or a pound – every little helps!

Thank you
