Story
Millie ❤💚 Team Fundraiser for Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice.
Our perfect girl Millie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour in March 2022 after suffering over two years with headaches and vomiting which was sadly not picked up by the hospital.
She was an absolute warrior enduring multiple surgeries, bacterial meningitis, ventriculitis, hydrocephalus and needing a shunt. After a number of months in hospital she finally was able to begin treatment for the cancer. She bravely went through 30 long sessions of daily radiotherapy followed by 8 aggressive cycles of chemotherapy. Throughout this time, despite feeling terrible and weak, she smiled and laughed and spread joy to all who met and surrounded her. Determined to live her best life, she managed to complete a level 3 diploma at college (remotely) and multiple other OU recognised courses.
Millie touched so many people with her wit, grace, strength and kindness. In July 2023 she was finally able to tell people she was cancer free and in September 2023 she started intensive rehab at Chailey. Sadly, in October 2023, Millie started to struggle with vision and balance. An mri scan showed that the tumour had returned aggressively and that there was nothing the medical team at UCLH could do. Three short weeks later in November she passed away.
We lost our beautiful daughter. She leaves a gaping hole in our heart and lives.
During Millie’s treatment, we were fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends and the most amazing children’s community nurses. Along side of this we were wrapped in the arms of Chestnut Tree House.
They have provided us all with invaluable support throughout her treatment and in her final days and continue to look out and support us and Millie’s brothersThey continue to provide support for families following the loss of a child/sibling, we are part of the Chestnut family and I don’t know what we would have done without their care and support.
Sadly it costs over £5 million per year to run and only 17% of this is government funded. In Millie’s name, we pledge to work hard to raise much needed funds to support this wonderful charity so that other children and families are able to have the support they provide when they need it.
We have lots of events and ideas coming up as well as friends and family taking part in individual events. We will link them all to this page so we can track the fundraising in Millie’s name.
Chestnut Tree House is a children’s charity providing hospice care and community support for children and young people with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
There are hundreds of children and young people in your local community who are unlikely to reach adulthood. And even more parents and family members who need care, help and support on their journey, as they don't know how long they will have together.
Your support helps families to spend time together. Precious moments that give a lifetime of memories.
