Story

We are a team of 4 and we're going to go " Mad In Madagascar" all in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare!

I'm Nikki ......My story with Weldmar started back in 1999 when my best friend Sara aged only 27 spent her final days there being cared for. The care didn't stop there it was also given to her family and friends. I am now very privileged to work for Weldmar in the Hospice for the past 2 years. I see on a first hand on a daily basis all the hard work , love and support that is given to all who enter the hospice. This is my second fundraising adventure for Weldmar, as in 2022 I took part in the Sahara Trek.

I'm Mish.... I am proud to have worked for Weldmar more for seven years. Every day I go to work I see the dignity, respect and care that everybody gives to each patient and the support we give to their families that's why I am doing the trek.

I'm Emma.... I have recently been given the privilege of working for Weldmar and have quickly realised what a special place it is. Its full of people wanting to do their best for others who are probably facing one of the hardest times in their lives. I lost my mum to cancer at quite a young age, she was on the waiting list to be taken into Weldmar but unfortunately that wish could not be granted for her. I know she had enjoyed using there wellbeing services though when she had been well enough. Its now my chance to give something back to the Hospice . Its going to be the toughest thing I've done in my life and I know it would of made my mum so proud. Watch out Madagascar here I come .

I'm Alli.... I wanted to help with Weldmar as I know what an amazing charity it is and I know that the care and support given by the truly inspirational people that work for Weldmar is invaluable to those who need it most. Cancer has affected myself and my family over the years. Loosing the most important people has such a lasting effect on us all and by taking part in this fabulous adventure and raising vital funds for this worthy cause has touched me in so many ways, I just couldn’t pass this amazing opportunity by. Also, this is a personal challenge for me…too loose weight and get fit has always been a rollercoaster so this Madagascar trek is my own personal goal to work towards. So, I am taking on this challenge in the name of our Auntie Sally. An inspiration and loved by everyone who met her, a warrior who never let on how much she was suffering. I won’t let you down!

Weldmar Hospicecare provides specialist care for adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. All of our care is provided for free, and we need to raise £18,000 every day to continue providing all of our services. This includes care at home from Weldmar Community Nurses and Weldmar at Home, our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, counselling and bereavement support, social workers, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and so much more. These amazing people are taking on a challenging twelve day trip across the towering mountains, verdant grasslands and exotic rainforests of the incredible island of Madagascar to support Weldmar Hospicecare - thank you for supporting them!
