Story
As many of you may know, our close friend Chris Harris recently passed away after taking his own life. It was an immense shock to everyone that knew him as it was inconceivable that the happy, friendly and loving man would suffer this fate. Chris was a trusted friend to many and has left a hole in many people’s hearts which I feel could never be replaced.
As a tribute, we have decided to take part in Tough Mudder in the summer of this year and dedicate our run to Chris. For anyone that is unfamiliar with Tough Mudder it is a 15km mud filled assault course which includes 10,000 volt electric shocks, ice baths and tear gas to name a few. Some people would say this is crazy …… but we say bring it on!
All money raised by us for this event will go directly to the charity Mind UK who offer great support to vulnerable people who need someone to talk to in times of need. Our fundraising target will be £1500 which to put into context would be able to fund the following;
• 187 Mind Infoline calls
• 71 hours of online support for vulnerable people
• Fund campaigns for better access to talking therapies, crisis care and other essential services
The purpose of us taking part in this event is not only to raise money for this great cause but also to spread the word of men’s mental health and how the little things can make such a massive difference. Even a quick message to someone you haven’t spoken to for a while, or a catch up over a coffee could potentially give them the boost they need to pick themselves up and carry on. This is a silent epidemic and is not talked about anywhere near enough. Don’t be afraid to say you’re not ok, a problem shared is a problem halved and is potentially a life saver.
