Story
In July 2018 Etta was diagnosed with a type of brain tumour, Pilocystic Astrocytoma. At 5 years old she faced many challenges over 2 years of surgery and chemotherapy at Edinburgh sick kids and the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. She took on her last round of chemo in the heart of the pandemic and finally rang the bell. We found a new way of life and got back letting Etta be a kid again.
She took part in the relay in 2022 proudly opening the survivors lap while friends and family watched with pride. We promised Etta that we would have a team for the next relay and hoped to make this dream become a reality for her. Unfortunately since then Etta and her sister Jada lost their dad suddenly in August last year. Since then life has been very challenging. The relay was fast approaching and with Ettas latest MRI being so close to relay time I didn’t feel able to put together a team. We had Ettas scan results and unfortunately these weren’t what we hoped, with an unknown future and a plan from her Oncologist to go on watch and wait for the next 6 months, I asked her what she wanted to do this summer. Her answer was to do the relay as Team Etta 🥹💜🎗️
So as a now 11 year old who’s had a lot to face in her short life, we as family and friends have pulled together this week to create Team Etta and take part in the relay on Saturday the 25th of May 🥰
Etta is a keen baker and has come up with some ideas to bake alongside Aunty Elaine to do some bake sales at family members work places. Other team members are following suit and planning some bake sales too so lots of homebakes will be in the making soon. Keep an eye on my Facebook for any posts about these Peerie fundraisers 🧁
If anybody would like to support us in this challenge in any small way then please donate if you can, come along to the track and support the event on the day and cheer us on! I know we will all be incredibly proud to watch Etta have her special day alongside so many others affected by cancer. I hope she sees how loved and supported she is as she faces the unknowns of cancer.
Thank you for reading ♥️
