Story
As NHS GPs we help diagnose and support many patients with cancer. We are extremely moved by that experience and were none more so than when our practice manager Sue (pictured above) was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer in 2021. Her bravery and positivity in the face of adversity were beyond compare and having said good-bye to her late last year we pledged to do something positive to remember, and celebrate, her great life. With that in mind, 3 partners from the practice, Drs Eloise Collins, Gareth Price and Cameron Irving are running the Manchester Marathon in April this year. Each of the three have previously completed marathon runs as part of triathlon events but never as a solo event, and for some it has been some considerable time since they ran this sort of distance!
Cancer Reasearch UK are the leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. In the last 40 years their research has helped double cancer survival in the UK. Today, 2 in 4 people survive their cancer for at least 10 years.
Most of us know someone, often very close to us, who experiences a diagnosis of cancer and the subsequent journey. Please dig deeply to contribute to this fundraising effort which, via the work Cancer Research UK do, helps make that journey so much easier for so many.
ADDENDUM 11/4 Unfortunately Dr. Collins has had to withdraw from the event due to health concerns so Drs Irving and Price will be carrying the baton for the event.
