We are part of #teamdemelza who in September 2024 will be taking part in the Machu Picchu challenge to raise much needed funds for Demelza Hospice Care for Children. We are 3 ladies, each with our own reasons for taking on this challenge of training for and completing this trek for this incredible charity. This wont be an easy task for any of us- we‘re fast approaching 50, one of us already is and we’re not particulalry fit but we have each seen first hand the incredible work hospices do and each of us will be celebrating the lives of special people who will forever be in our hearts.

I am a paediatric nurse and work at Demelza and we believe every child with a serious or terminal condition and their families should receive the specialist care and emotional support they need to live the most fulfilling life they can. Every year our work is a lifeline to over 750 children, young people and families throughout Kent, South EastLondon and East Sussex; helping them to build memories, for however long they have together. Parents and carers tell us that our knowledge, skills and experience help them to feel more confident and in control when caring for their children.

We are the constant presence across whole lifetimes, supporting with making the happiest of memories as well as supporting through prolonged hospital admissions or end of life care and beyond. We are a bespoke, individualised and responsive service that adapts to every family and situation as what is right for one family may not be for another. But most of all, Demelza is full of love, laughter and fun and I see it every single day in the families I work with. Their love, courage and determination amazes me every day.

Demelza is a charity and relies almost entirely on generous people like you donating. We can’t provide this highly skilled, professional service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without you!!!!!
