Story
We are fundraising for the Get Up There challenge in memory of David Graham. Dad passed away in October 2021 from colon cancer, 4 months after his diagnosis. Our family and friends understands the importance of screening to prevent this awful disease and would like to help raise awareness and funding for this fantastic effort in honor of David.
Dad was the best guy there was and would always go out of his way to help his family, friends, students, and community. He was always giving. Spreading his smiles, laughter, and kindness wherever he went. We want to help support this very important cause, just as he would do.
In 2023 (in only 3 weeks), we received donations from 200+ individuals, raising over $12,000! This collective effort helped push the GUT event past the $100,000 mark, for the first time in the events history. This year I will be bringing more friends and family with me, to keep our momentum and continue to raise funding and awareness in support of the fight against colorectal cancer!
Every day one Nova Scotian dies from a disease that is 90% preventable. That disease is colorectal cancer. 2024 will mark the 16th Anniversary of Get Up There (GUT), which raises funds and awareness to support colorectal cancer screening and prevention. Funds raised through GUT have helped the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation purchase state-of- the-art equipment and technology used to screen for colorectal cancer. GUT supported the opening of a 3rd Endoscopy Suite at DGH which is used exclusively for screening FIT-positive patients, and which has eliminated the wait list for these patients. Funds raised through GUT 2024 will help support the acquisition of an endoscopic ultrasound for DGH - the first of its kind for our hospital!
