Story
I'm fundraising for Police Care UK & SameYou and I'm hoping to raise least £300 to support each charity. But I need your help to get there!
To do this this on the 10th of September 2020, the Tour de France rides it's longest stage, I will cycle it with them .... 100s of miles away on a cycle trainer in a small room at a Police training centre.
The aim is 218km (135.5 miles) in the same time Northamptonshire Police early shift are on duty - 8 hrs. For every minute over the target will add an extra mile!
WHY??!! 3 really good reasons
21 yrs ago I was seriously injured on duty. Thanks to care from a specialist surgeon and support agencies I made it back to full duties against expectations. As my career nears its end, more officers than ever through assault, accident and injuries need help and I would like to give others the opportunities I've had to recover and move on.
Police Care UK makes sure both serving and former police colleagues who suffer harm, and their families, have someone to when things get tough. We provide practical, emotional, and financial support that is confidential, independent and accessible. Our mission is to reduce the impact of harm on police and their families. We do this by ensuring everyone is aware of the harm police experience, enable people to recover and rebuild their lives, and engage with the police service to do all they can to reduce or prevent harm.
Fundraising for SameYou is important to me because as a family we have battled the consequences of brain injury. We are painfully aware of how difficult it is for people with Acquired Brain Injuries (ABIs) to recover and rebuild their lives after they leave hospital and how much support is needed. Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is caused by injury to the brain after birth. This includes strokes, tumours, concussions and accidents. 1 in 3 people will have an Acquired Brain Injury at some point in their lives but this is hardly ever talked about and survivors often face stigma. SameYou want to change this. They are working to break the silence around brain injury and help give people the best possible chance of recovery after leaving hospital. Any donation would help and would be really appreciated. If you are interested in learning more, go to: https://www.sameyou.org
Lastly, the current pandemic has unavoidably curtailed the fundraising events of all charities, costing fantastic and worthy causes millions of pounds in lost funding. I would like to make a contribution to help these causes through these unprecedented times - and you can do too, by sponsoring me to endure a few hours of pain, suffering and a sore backside!
Thank you in advance for supporting me. I couldn't do it without kindness of friends and family like you.
