Story
Shamefully, this is the first time we are doing the Great North Run, and it has taken our mum being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer to do so.
Back in January, on holiday visiting our sister and her family, whilst playing with her grandson my mum noticed a simple twinge in her tummy as he woke her up jumping on her. Fast forward to GP visits and scans on our return, this simple twinge turned out to be Ovarian Cancer.
Unfortunately most Ovarian Cancer is diagnosed in late stages, due to symptoms being very non-specific, and we want to raise awareness and money for these important charities, who are helping us and other people in the same situation.
In the 6 months since, its been a tough journey of chemotherapy and major surgery, but thanks to the amazing teams at the QE Gateshead, and the Freeman, and our mum's true Irish grit, things are looking up and she’s made this journey look easier than we’ll look coming over the finish line!
We are running in support of Ovacome and Maggie’s;
Ovacome - are focused on providing support and information to anyone affected by cancer.
Maggie’s - provide free practical support and information for people living with cancer and their families. They 100% rely on donations to keep going.
Thanks very much for all your support. xxx
