Story
Superbugs kill more than 1.5 million people around the world every year and leave millions more unwell. But we can stop them.
Superbugs are a major problem in Tanzania. There are high levels of use of incorrectly used antibiotic medicines and antibiotics can be purchased widely without prescription. Several scientific studies show levels of resistance are soaring.
The British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (sorry a bit of a mouthful but known as BSAC! ) are a charitable organisation that partners the Roll Back Antimicrobial Resistance Initiative which already run three hugely successful ‘Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) clubs’ in schools in the Dodoma Region of Tanzania, educating children about AMR so they can keep themselves safe and bring the message home to their families and communities.
Now they want to open more, to reach more children over a wider area.
To do this, though, they need more resources. Nothing fancy – they just need the sort of kit many of us take for granted: a laptop, projector, printer, and stationery. Basic, but transformative tools that’ll fit inside a big carboard box.
'School in a box' is an initiative to fund just 6 of these boxes which will allow them to open many more clubs, and reach hundreds more children.
My names Sally and I work with this amazing charitable organisation and my family (super athletes featured above!) are all on board as part of Team Tipping to raise as much as we can to for this fab initiative 'School in a box.' We vary from very cycle unfit (me) to triathlon pros (not me!) and we're going to cycle the length and back of the beautiful Camel trail in Cornwall (about 35 miles ish....) - we may even be lucky to pick up some fish and chips on the way!
To help us pedal that bit harder please give however much you can to support keeping children and their families in Tanzania safe and help fight back against superbugs.
