Story
Both of the Story children were born early due me having a Liver complication in pregnancy known as Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy, or ICP. With Hugo this started later but with awful night itching and eventually a spontaneous early birth. With Violet the symptoms presented earlier giving them time to worsen significantly and left me very unwell and Violet at increasing risk. Due to her arriving much earlier than Hugo we spent four weeks in special care.
During both my pregnancies I was supported by the wonderful Jenny Chambers, who set up ICP to research the condition and she is a constant presence in the online group helping mums like me through the challenge that is an ICP pregnancy. Without her and the research ICP supports I would not have felt so well informed and able to advocate for myself and my then unborn children.
Violet is one of those wonderful 2020 Pandemic babies and spending time in hospital during a pandemic is no-ones favourite activity. Spending 4 weeks in hospital, separate from Hugo was probably the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. The Harrogate Special Care team looked after not only Violet, but also Chris and me. We are so truly grateful to them and they will always be a special part of our life.
To try and repay these wonderful teams, Hugo and I are both taking on the York Triathlon this summer. Hugo is doing the Kids Traithlon on the Saturday and I'll be attempting to survive the super sprint on the Sunday. With pools having been closed and park run not happening we're a little behind on training, but we're hoping to have fun and raise some import funds.
