Story
I'm taking part in My Marsden March to raise vital funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Here's our team captains story......
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Quite simply we are up for this challenge in memory of Karen’s brother, Gary Richardson who was in the hands of this magnificent hospital for 9 years. In July 2010, at the age of 40, Gary was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes. Little hope was offered locally so Gary & Julie approached The Royal Marsden and in the August he started chemo. Gary’s medical team and all the staff on Robert Tiffany ward gave Gary & Julie the most outstanding professional support and their ethos of care and honesty was amazing. Without the Marsden Gary would not have been given the opportunity to live life to the full and see his son’s Elliott and Piers grow up into fine young men.
Karen took part in the first Marsden March in 2011 as a way of saying thank you for everything The Royal Marsden Hospital were doing. They honestly did everything they could for him, their experience and dedication is second to none. Gary wasn’t one to give up either, oh no, his strength and determination to keep going was inspirational. So much so that in 2015 Gary joined Karen, Martin & Elliott and together they walked the full 14 miles of the “normal” Marsden March. The funds raised through this event has helped The Royal Marsden to revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer, across the UK and around the world.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you
