Story

We are Paul Allwood, Chrissy Allwood and Sally Tebbs ( siblings ) joined by Sarah Sargent - and the 4 of us are cousins.

In 2021, Sally did this Trek alone ( well, with 750 other strangers ) and it was so rewarding that she sold the idea to the other 3 mugs to join her in the pain and suffering for 2022 - yes it will hurt, there will quite literally be blood, sweat and tears. Sally's toe nails are still deformed 6 months on from the last one - BUT - we'll be facing it together to raise vital funds for a vital charity. Paul, Sally & Chrissy reside in Boston, with Sarah in Portsmouth - but we are going to do our best to meet for training treks when we can!

At some point in our lifetimes, in everyone's lifetimes infact, you will be up close and personal to someone you love and care about who is suffering this insidious, heartbreaking disease. It may even be you.

It creeps up slowly on the unsuspecting victim, gradually erasing all sense of self and any awareness or memory of their lives. Memory is Full!

Thinking about Martin's Great Auntie Gladys, who we were very fond of - it may have seemed amusing at first to many and over time became difficult for us to face - but she lived her last few years utterly convinced that someone was coming into her flat and hiding things or taking things away. She began to accuse those closest to her of stealing from her, ( a very common thing with dementia ) and wouldn't let certain people in. People she had known for many years but now had a deep mistrust and fear of.

Imagine that - living in that constant state of fear and suspicion that someone is going to break into your home.

Vascular Dementia takes things to a whole new level - often with severely aggressive episodes.

So - for us to suffer some pain for a few days - achey legs, bums, feet, arms, hips, backs and lost toe nails - if it can go any small way towards helping care for those with Dementia or their families, or help fund research for a cure/treatment - then bring it on!

We will drag ourselves over that line - and the hills and the steps - and your support and encouragement means the world.

Thank You.

Sarah, Paul, Sally & Chrissy.
