Story
Please help support me raise much needed funds for two worthy charities, the RAF Association (RAFA) and Cancer Research UK.
I am attempting to run at least 10km every day of 2021. That’s 365 days, 3650km (2268 miles) or approx. 3,595,250 steps in aid of Cancer Research UK and the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA).
That’s equivalent to London to Edinburgh, and back, 3 times!
Anyone who knows me can testify that I am not naturally built for running, nor was I an advertisement for healthy living (especially before I started training). At 42 and getting too long in the tooth, this is a serious challenge.
Due to the effects of COVID-19, Cancer Research UK has had to cut its research funding by £45 million. This equates to 12 fewer fellowships, 24 fewer research programmes, 68 fewer projects and around 328 fewer researchers. I have been directly affected by Cancer, with members of my close family have recently had cancer (and thankfully recovered) whilst friends and other family members have succumbed to this horrible disease.
RAFAs dedicated helpline receives nearly 40,000 enquiries during an average year. As a currently serving RAF Chief Technician (Aircraft Engineer), I have witnessed over my 24-year career the support given by RAFA to the RAF Family, no matter whether you’re currently serving or you’re a veteran (regular of reservist), their spouses, partners, dependent children or family members. You never know, it maybe you that needs that help in the future.
