Story
On Sunday October 2nd, Helen Marley-Hutchinson and Rachel Mai-Jones ran the Virtual London Marathon - 26.2 miles along the Thames Path - to raise money towards new powerchairs for Greenwich Powerchair Football Club (GPFC).
Here we are on our finish line by the Thames Barrier:
Every Thursday between 4pm - 630pm, it's match time for GPFC. These are valuable moments of freedom in restricted lives, where for a couple of magical hours, life is defined by what is possible - it is a game of football with friends.
Assistant coaches from Charlton Athletic Community Trust help referee the game.
Funding for GPFC comes from local charity South London Special League (SLSL). Last year, we ran the Big Half and London Marathon for SLSL and thanks to your generosity, we raised enough money to buy a new powerchair.
Powerchairs aren't cheap, a new one can cost upwards of £6,500. Every penny you can spare will go towards ensuring our fabulous, diverse, disabled community can continue to play football, make friends and have fun.
Thank you!
