Barry's Story....
July 2022… 43 Years old and being told you have Stage 3 Bowel Cancer.
I was lucky to be booked in quickly for a bowel resection to remove the tumour which went as well as I could have hoped. However 2 days into recovery I suffered a major internal haemorrhage, requiring a secondary operation, lifesaving surgery and multiple blood transfusions ending with a stay in intensive care and long road to recovery. Today I’m lucky that am now fully recovered and Cancer free, and able to continue my life with fiancé and four children.
During 2024 I had planned to cycle from coast to coast across the UK in support of Macmillan, yet a broken foot stopped me in my tracks!!
Myself, along with close family and friends have now teamed up to walk "back to our roots" across 26.2 miles from Brighton to our original home town of Eastbourne to help raise funds for Macmillan cancer support.
I was lucky that they were there for me and my family, and know how vital there support is. There are currently 3 million people living with cancer in the UK today. It's Macmillan's goal to be there for everyone from the moment of diagnosis, but they can't do this without donations from people like you.
I'd be so grateful if you could help our team reach our £1750 pledge, which can pay for a Macmillan Nurse for one week. This could provide people living with cancer and their families essential medical, practical and emotional support.
Thank you!
