Story
We're Mark Nice and Andy Whiting and we're attempting a series of HUGE challenges this year to raise money for two charities that are important to us, our friends and our families.
Starting on the 23rd September, we're attempting 5 challenges in just 5 days to raise money for Cancer Research UK and En-Fold Autism Support. We're taking on an 11 mile kayak across Windermere, a demanding two-lap, 32 mile cycle around Coniston Water, a dramatic whitewater raft through Snowdonia, zooming down the fastest zip line in the world and finishing atop Snowdon (Yr Wfddfa). All in just five days.
We've started training and we're already intensely aware of the pain and suffering these challenges will cause men our age and physique. Are we mad? Perhaps, but we're doing this for some great causes!
In this day and age, we know there are some amazing fundraising causes out there alongside people taking part in amazing challenges to raise money for organisations across the UK. But we've chosen two organisations that are important to us both and we'd love it if any donations or sponsorship could be split between the two.
Cancer Research UK
With an estimated 3m people in the UK living with the disease, it’s likely we all know someone who is living with, has beaten or been taken from us by cancer.
We've got personal experience, and we know how much effort is going into researching cures, treatment and prevention of cancer; so when we decided to do something BIG in 2024, we knew that a cancer charity should be at the heart of our efforts.
En-Fold autism
With an estimated 1 in a 100 people in the UK experiencing autism, getting the right support for families has never been more important, or more difficult.
En-Fold offers an Autism Support service for adults and families affected by autism spectrum condition (ASC). They aim to reduce isolation and ensure families access the right support for their individual needs.
It's organisations like En-Fold that have been so important to supporting Andy's nephew, Sam, who experiences autism, and helping his family access the right information and local support.
As autism is a spectrum condition, and everyone experiences it in such a unique way, it's local organisations and charities like En-Fold that provide direction, information and advice, as well as practical support, when families need it..
