Story
Gary, Martin, Ken, and Adrian will be doing a skydive at the Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockerham, Lancashire on 24th April 2022 to help raise funds for Kidneys for Life and to raise awareness of kidney disease.
In January 2021 Gary donated a kidney and his wife Julie received a kidney as part of the UK Living Kidney Sharing Scheme (UKLKSS).
So, how did all this come about?
Gary's wife of 32 years Julie has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and her kidney function had gradually deteriorated to just 12%. So, to avoid dialysis (which can be life changing on its own) Gary stepped forward to see if he could donate a kidney to Julie. After 31 years of marriage he was told they were not compatible! Joking aside, whilst Gary could not donate to Julie, he was asked if he would be interested in donating to the living kidney sharing scheme.
Gary and Julie's circumstances changed overnight in October 2020 when they received a call to say they had been matched on the UK Living Kidney Sharing Scheme (UKLKSS).
So, having done something some people have already called heroic by donating a kidney, why is Gary now doing another skydive?
Gary said "I proved I could push myself outside of my comfort zone by doing a skydive from 11,000ft on 10th July 2021 and helped raise over £1400 for Kidneys for Life. So what else could I possibly do to help Kidneys for Life? Yes, I could write them a cheque and send a donation, but what if I did something far more exciting/frightening/out of my comfort zone?"
So, here we are, doing another skydive again at The Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockerham near Lancaster, this time jumping from 15,000ft, along with Martin, Ken and Adrian.
Martin is a life-long friend to Gary. They were at school together and have kept in touch all these years later. Martin (Mart) has been a great friend and they have had some great adventures over the years.
Gary, Ken and Adrian have known each other for over 15 years, having previously worked together at Manchester Airport.
Adrian has previously completed a skydive but this will be Ken's first time but both wanted to support Gary and Kidneys for Life.
Please donate and help us achieve out Team target of £1400 for Kidneys for Life.
We cannot thank you enough for your support.
