Story
On December 7th 2019, we will sleep out on a freezing cold night as part of the World's Big Sleepout campaign. The event will aim to see 50,000 people sleep out in the hope of raising $50,000,000 for people experiencing homelessness and global displacement. If this goal is to be met, it is estimated that over 1,000,000 homeless and displaced people will be helped.
Since joining Trinity in August, the homelessness crisis has become much more apparent to us. Currently, there are more than 10,000 people homeless in Ireland, with a total of 10,275 people in emergency accommodation. In Dublin alone, there are over 4,000 homeless adults and over 200 families deemed homeless. When walking through town on our way to college, or on our way home late at night, the number of people sleeping on the street is ever increasing. Sometimes, we choose not to see them - maybe we don’t have any spare change or maybe we’re in a hurry to go somewhere, but their reality can’t change unless we decide to help change it with them. We are each very fortunate to have a roof over our heads and three meals a day, and sometimes we do forget how lucky we are and just how many people are not nearly as fortunate. That is why we have decided to take part in the World's Big Sleepout. This will give us an opportunity to help as much as we can while joining in unison with other students and faculty members of TCD to help this worthy cause.
Please donate anything you can and help us help homeless and displaced people and families around the globe.
100% of donations received will go to the cause, with 50% going to charities helping rough sleepers and people suffering homelessness in Dublin and 50% going to charities helping as many as the 70.1 million people who have lost their homes due to war, natural disasters, or extreme poverty as possible.
