Raising money for LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice and The Brain Tumour Charity

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Page.

My husband, Scotland loved running, infact he loved all sports and much to my dismay at every opportunity would opt to be outside running, cycling, skiing, hiking in his quest to keep fit.

Being the fitness fanatic he was, running marathons and cycling 100 miles for fun, our world fell apart in August 2023 when Scott was diagnosed with a Stage 4, Glioblastoma Brain Tumour.

Scott had radiotherapy and some eight grueling rounds of chemotherapy and fought hard every step of the way.

In May 2024, a routine MRI showed the Tumour had shrunk and we entered the summer months with a renewed sense of hope and optimism.

In August 2024, completing his eighth round of chemotherapy, Scott's health started to decline and after a hospital admission and MRI scan, on the 11th September we were told that the tumour had doubled in size, and a referral was made to the palliative team.

Over the next few weeks Scott fought hard and despite the progression of the tumour, he retained his sense of humor laughing and being inappropriate until the bitter end.

On Friday 4th October 2024, Scott took his last breath surrounded by his children and family.

Throughout the challenging journey, Scott remained strong, courageous and his love for life (and sport) was a constant.

Why you ask am I running the Leicester Half marathon……????

Scotland also lived up to his name. After entering the Leicester Half in 2023 he couldn’t bear the fact that he had paid to enter a race that he couldn’t compete in so, he made me promise to run the race on his behalf.

Since becoming his full time career in July 2024, the ‘running plan’ wasn’t implemented. Nevertheless in Scott’s words “anyone can run a half marathon Katherine” so, lets hope he's right.

I’ve roped in our dear friends Clare Surrell and Paul Ridgway in the hope that we can raise some much needed funds for two charities close to his heart The Brain Tumour Trust and LOROS.

On behalf of my warrior husband and our amazing kids if you are able contribute any amount of sponsorship, this will go to a great cause.

To Scotland, after my second half marathon in 2021, I promised I would never run another. You, however, fought a long and hard battle and were an inspiration to us all, so, for the FINAL time, I’m dusting of my running shoes and agreeing to this torture.

Babe…..this one is for you 💔x
