Story
Two years ago, we lost someone very special to our family—our Grandma. She was always there with a warm smile and endless love. In her later years, dementia began to take its toll, slowly stealing the memories and moments that defined her vibrant personality. Watching her face this cruel illness was heartbreaking as a family, but it has inspired us to help others who are watching a loved one going through the same thing.
On April 6th, mum and I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon together in Grandma’s memory and to raise funds for Dementia UK. This cause is very close to our hearts. Dementia UK works tirelessly to provide care for those living with dementia and to fund vital research that will hopefully one day lead to a cure.
Running this race together is our way of celebrating Grandma’s life. While she may not be here physically, we’ll feel her spirit every step of the way!
We are running not only in Grandma’s memory but also in memory of Taidi, who was sadly taken from us recently. Taidi had been Grandma's carer since her diagnosis and witnessed firsthand the challenges of watching a loved one succumb to dementia. They shared 60 wonderful years together, and in his later life Taidi also began to face his own challenges with the early stages of memory loss.
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference—whether it’s funding research, providing support services, or raising awareness about this devastating illness.
Please join us in honouring Grandma and Taidi’s memory by supporting this cause. Let’s work towards a future where no family has to endure the pain of losing a loved one to dementia.
Thank you,
Caitlin
