Story
I have been an ostomate since 2019 after 4 emergency surgeries and almost dying there on the table. I know the struggles, the pain, the hurt and the depressing pRt of ostomies. I also know that I wouldn't be alive without my ileostomy which I call Stoma Steve. I had rough patches but my family friends and support groups have helped .we through it. Ostomy Canada needs to raise awareness and money to help people like me with support and supplies. That is why I am teaming up with Ostomy Canada Society to raise awareness and to raise funds for people who have ostomies. Believe it or not the Canadian government does not cover ostomy supplies we have to pay out of pocket or through insurance. Ostomy supplies cost anywhere from $400 to $750 a month. Even those on disability are not covered.
I along with family and friends will be doing fundraisers in the month of September, please help us to raise money and awareness.
On October 2, 2021 across Canada, people living with an ostomy, their friends and family will walk, run, roll, slide, hop, dance, sashay, prance, bike, jump, strut, twirl, skip, chill, play cards, or whatever to raise funds and awareness for Ostomy Canada. Remember anything you do needs to be done with public health measures in mind.
This amazing virtual event across Canada will raise much needed funds to help us improve the quality of life for people living with an ostomy. Help us get our voices heard!
