Story
I have decided to return to Kenya in 2025 on the annual Rams in Kenya volunteering trip with African Adventures and Derby County Community Trust. This will be my last trip for a while, and what makes it even more special is my 2 youngest children have decided they would like to be a part of it.
The programme works with 5 partner schools to improve sanitation, build new classrooms or facilities and increase safety measures. As well as teaching in classrooms, coaching sports and learning new skills. The charity, African Adventures, formed their first partnership with the schools in low-income areas in 2009 and since, they have provided support to more than 22,000 children.
In my previous two trips we have provided the children of Jubilee Academy with new uniforms, books, stationary, toothbrushes and toothpaste, toys, shoes, sports equipment and lots of other items as well as provided food in school and out in the community to their families. We helped to build three new classrooms and started a new kitchen. The support provided by DCCT and the volunteers is invaluable and you see first hand just how much it all helps these beautiful children of Kenya.
Every volunteer is tasked to fundraise to cover flights, accommodation and resources for the schools they are partnered with. Within this sponsorship, 20% of raised funds go back into the Derby community to fund programmes ran by DCCT. I am looking to raise enough money to cover my space in the programme and any additional funds will be put towards gifts and resources to be taken to the school, such as school uniform. I plan on organising different events to support me in doing so and I’m looking to local businesses for sponsorship support.
