Story
On the 14 May 2023 I am aiming to participate and complete my first ever marathon - The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.
I will be completing the run-on behalf of three charities that mean a hell of a lot to me.
Like all the runners, I will be running on behalf of Rob Burrow raising money for the MNDA. As a lifelong Rhinos fan and someone who is fortunate to have met Rob on a few occasions, I am honoured to try and raise any money i can for a wonderful cause and an even better bloke.
In addition, I am also running in memory of two individuals a bit closer to home.
My lovely mother-in-law, Alison Ravenscroft, was taken far too early from us at the age of 74 in her fight with vascular dementia. For anyone who has experienced this most cruel form of dementia, will know how fast the decline is and its devastating impact on loved ones. To this end, I am raising money not just in memory of Alison but also my hero, my wife Lizzy, who has lost both her parents by the age of 34. In Alison's memory, I will therefore be running on behalf Dementia UK.
Finally, I plan to raise money in one of my closest friends Chris Paley-Smith. For anyone who knew Chris (or Pags) would agree what an inspiration he was both in how he lived his life and ultimately how he dealt with his death. Chris was the master of ceremonies at mine and Lizzy's wedding and always the heartbeat of our group of friends. When he was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in his early 30s it was devasting to us all. How he dealt with the diagnosis with positivity and bravery was a true inspiration. Chris was taken far too early but will never be forgotten. In Chris' memory I will be raising money for the Barts Charity.
