Raising money for Restless Development

This is the fundraising page for students taking on Kilimanjaro in 2024 in aid Restless Development, the non profit global agency that supports youth power.

Story

I am fundraising for Restless Development!

Restless Development is a leading international development charity that works with young people across Africa and Asia to make lasting change in their communities and countries. They have trained, inspired and helped more than seven million young people by giving them a voice, employment skills, health education, and helping them to become leaders in preventing and solving the world’s challenges.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We hope you like our story and charity, and can donate to our cause, Restless Development.

Me and Lauren are a couple who love the outdoors and taking on new adventures. This is why when we saw the opportunity to climb and try and summit Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania - the world's highest free-standing mountain in the world, with its peak at 5,895m - we felt like this was an opportunity that we couldn't turn down. We will be undertaking this trek with a company called Choose a Challenge, whilst raising money for a charity called Restless Development.

As stated before, Restless Development is a charity that equips young people with leadership skills to try to help them make changes for a better life. It does this by running leadership programmes for young people to pass skills and knowledge through their communities. Restless development works across 74 countries in several continents. 95% of young people live in developing countries, and therefore it is a key goal of restless development to provide these young people with the same opportunities and knowledge as young people from other parts of the world. The charity also works in developed nations such as the UK and the USA to provide leadership skills and knowledge to young people here too.

Programmes that are run by Restless Development include:

Education and employment – Tackling the youth unemployment crisis by supporting young people to remain in education for longer and providing skills for formal employment and skills to become and entrepreneur.

Gender and sexual rights – Youth Stop AIDS campaign and awareness around LGBTQI+ and stopping discrimination.

Voice and democracy – Offers skills and networks to young people to engage in democratic decision making. It is about keeping democratic leaders accountable to their word.

Climate justice – Providing support and training for adaptation methods in farming from the changing landscape due to climate change. Young people are at risk of losing the most from climate change, and despite this their voices often aren’t heard in trying to change this! Restless Development tries to change them and enables young people’s voices to be heard.

Any donations which are made will mean a lot to both of us as we are both young people who believe it is important in investing in young people as they are going to be what pushes this world forward in the future. As well as this we have both been lucky enough to have had good upbringings and given opportunities and skills to help us throughout the rest of our lives, and we believe that every young person throughout the world should also get these opportunities to be able to follow whatever they would like to do in their life and help people in their communities too. If you do donate, if you are eligible to add gift aid please do, as it adds no extra cost to you, but adds 25% more money on top of your donation. Once again, thank you for taking the time to read our story and hopefully donating too, it's for a great cause and we hope you feel the same way about it too.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
