Story
I am turning 18 this summer and as I am taking a gap year I wanted to use that time to do some fundraising. I would like to work with young children in the future so I have chosen three children’s charities to raise money for, and I have created Ruby’s Challenge 18. My aim is to complete 18 different events/challenges in my 18th year in the hope of raising £1,800 to spread across the three charities.
The first charity I am supporting is Children with Cancer UK. Only 2% of cancer research is dedicated to children and young adults with the disease. Cancer is more common in adults but there are many children that get cancer as well and I know some children that have unfortunately passed away from it. That’s why I think more research needs to be dedicated to treating cancer in children to give them the best possible chance of beating it and having a future.
Unfortunately there are many children that are diagnosed with incurable illnesses. That’s why the second charity I have chosen to fundraise for is Demelza UK. They support seriously ill children and try to give them the best time in their last few months. They support the families as well and help siblings deal with what is happening to their brother or sister. Demelza provide opportunities for families to create memories with their child while they can.
Finally, I have chosen to fundraise for Rainbow Trust because they give one-to-one support to families who have children that are seriously ill. They can help to explain diagnosis and treatment and listen to any worries that they may have. Not only do they support the families but also provide activities for the children and their siblings.
Below you will see the team members which are all in my name. Each of these will go to the page that I set up for the charities. You can either donate equally to each charity or you can choose to donate to one of them.
