Story
Ruth's Place is the only emergency shelter for women in Luzerne County. A program of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, we operate a 24/7, 21-bed, open floor plan facility. Since its inception in 2003, the shelter has housed over 2,790 women and has provided over 64,950 nights of lodging. Ruth's Place offers women a supportive space to focus on personal development and to find permanent housing and employment.
We, the staff at Ruth's Place, are committed to our work supporting women experiencing homelessness in our community. We work all day and night, every day of the year, to help our residents find comfort and support as they achieve their goals to live the lives they envision for themselves! We know that homelessness has many causes and can happen to anyone. It could be your sister, mother, daughter, even YOU! And you can help us reach our $1,000 goal!
We are raising funds in honor of our dear friend, and fellow homeless advocate, the late Brian Johns. Brian led our homeless street outreach program and believed in the philosophies and programming that we are committed to providing at Ruth's Place. We know he is with us, cheering us on to reach our goal. Help us raise funds to support the shelter. Your donation provides women with hope and shows them that their community has their back! Help us help the women of Luzerne County!
