Story
My Dad, Neil Stacey, sadly passed away on the 1st January 2020 after spending a short time in intensive care at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that people donate money to one of two charities Dad cared about a great deal - The Dystonia Society and Greenpeace.
For over 40 years, Greenpeace has been standing up to protect our rainforests, oceans and climate. In that time, they've made huge strides towards our vision of a green and peaceful world.
They defend the frozen Arctic, forcing Shell to drop its risky oil drilling plans
They protect rainforests, exposing companies destroying them for profit
They safeguard marine life, striving to remove the threat of plastic pollution
A donation in memory will support this vital work in Dad's name.
Dad has supported Greenpeace for the last 30 years, and feels passionately about protecting our planet for future generations. Anyone who spent time in our home will know he was an avid recycler long before it was fashionable, and he brought us on a family trip to visit the Rainbow Warrior when Maeve and I were just children, encoraging us both to join up and do our bit.
I know that any money donated to this cause in Dad's name would make him incredibly proud.
The Dystonia Society provide support, advocacy and information for anyone affected by the neurological movement condition known as dystonia.
Dad was diagnosed with the condition in July 1989 and the charity has given him a lot of support, as well as allowing him to support others with the condition.
To find out more about how Dystonia affected Dad's life, please watch the short film I made about him 9 years ago: https://vimeo.com/35794597
We know it would mean a lot to Dad if more people with this life altering condition can be supported in his memory.
