Story

WE ARE PLAYERS AND SUPPORTERS FROM RAMS RUGBY CLUB!

We came across the RFU Injured Players Foundation (IPF) when Dani Watts, who played flanker for RAMS SIRENS RFC, was left paralysed whilst playing in a league match in 2017.

She was taken to hospital where she endured surgery on and around the spinal cord immediately.

The IPF heard of Dani’s trauma within hours and from the very first phone call and hospital visit the following morning, they have never left her side. They are there for life.

It isn’t only the player who sustains the catastrophic injury the IPF look after the whole family. They support and encourage all to look beyond the negatives of such an injury and to focus on rehab, recovery and provide constant support for the new life they have entered.

In Dani’s case, her partner Pete and their two children, Lillie and Freddie who have had someone to talk to from day one.

Through the IPF and the numerous activities they plan every year, Dani and Pete have met many players in the same situation and made lifelong friends.

There’s no denying that this trauma was a huge bump in the road but having first hand experience of what the charity provides, there is only one thing to do. Give back.

Dani’s other family is the Rams Rugby Club. They jumped on board and have supported in every aspect of fundraising. From the raffles, the contributions at the dinners and the bar, the match day bucket donations, the forming of a team to climb and carry Dani up Snowden and the sponsorship for the charity events Dani and her Ramily have entered.

Next year is no different.

First of all, the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 29th March.

A group of 10, including Dani, look to get round the sites of the city.

This is followed by the main event on the 26th April. The London Marathon where Dani and Pete will wheel around the course, helping show the world what the IPF have done and at the same time, looking to raise as much as possible to give something back to the charity that really has saved lives.

Please help raise awareness and if able to, sponsor. Every bit helps and all will be extremely grateful.
