Story
The team at Peterley Manor Farm will be running the Race for Life 5k at Waddesdon Manor on 17th May in aid of Cancer Research UK and GAIN.
If you have visited The Barn Kitchen at all in the past year, you will have tasted the creations of our breakfast chef Pandav, who had signed up to do the Everest Marathon in his native Nepal in May. Pandav has been a keen runner his whole life, and has run the London, Boston, Berlin and Chicago marathons, and sought out the Everest marathon as his next challenge. He was accepted in a group of 250 elite runners to tackle what is considered one of the most difficult races in the world, beginning at Mt Everest base camp, and moving through the Sherpa trails of Khumbu Valley.
He was due to run in aid of Cancer Research, after his own battle with cancer over a decade ago. However a few months ago, after he returned from a trip to Nepal, he was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a disease which affects the nervous system. This has meant that this year, he is not able to run the Everest Marathon as planned.
While it’s not quite the Everest marathon, Pandav has always inspired us at Peterley to run, no matter our abilities. As he often says, ‘if you can’t run, just walk’! Therefore, we are racing in the Race for Life 5k to raise money in his stead.
We are very proud to be running this race in aid of his chosen charity, and GAIN, who help other people diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome. But we are especially proud to be doing it for Pandav, who will be there with us in spirit.
*Please note that in order to split between the two charities, there are two separate fundraisers below, one for CRUK, and one for GAIN. You will need to choose one (or both!) to donate to, with our goal being £500 for each charity. We would love the split between them to be 50/50, so we can give to each equally.
