Action Medical Research is a UK-wide charity funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies and children. We fight for answers that can lead to cures, treatments, and medical breakthroughs for some of the toughest fights our children face.

Four years ago, Ben’s daughter was born premature at 28 weeks with complications and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS). Two major surgeries and 6 months later they were finally able to go home with oxygen support just in time for Christmas. Since then, there has been one more Major surgery (hopefully the last) and routine 3 monthly cancer screenings. In spite everything she is the most loving happy little girl you could meet, and you would never tell the things she’s has been through by the smile always on her face.

During the 6 months she was in hospital Ben and his wife met many people from all walks of life all watching on helplessly as their kids fought for a place in this world. Ben was one of the lucky ones who got to take his child home. This Race is not only for Ben’s daughter but all the parents and children past and present who have needed to stay in hospital for their child to survive, and for all the little stars that never got to take there first steps or say their first words.

With Research and your help, we can help more parents like Ben take their child home and have that chance at life they may not have gotten without new knowledge and discoveries from research that funding provides.

Team Pen and Ball (Ben and Paul) are here to raise as much as we can for this great cause and will be training tirelessly until the event in the hopes of also winning the race. Though its not about the winning, we just want to give our everything for this race as one way of giving something back to all those wonderful children.
