Story
Cheetahs are Africa’s most endangered big cat. Once found in numbers of more than 100,000, across a range that stretched through Africa and Asia, there are now less than 7,500 left in the wild. Already extinct in more than 20 countries in their former range, cheetahs now only exist in fragmented pockets of Africa. The world’s fastest land animal is racing against extinction. By #UnitingForCheetahs we can tackle threats such as human-wildlife conflict (HWC). Together we can save a species.
Human expansion has reduced cheetah habitat by 91%. The majority of remaining cheetah populations have been forced onto unprotected farmland - putting them under constant threat of conflict with livestock and farmers. Human-wildlife conflict (HWC) is pushing cheetahs and other predators towards extinction. By #UnitingForCheetahs we can secure their future, and that of all those who the landscape.

Livestock guarding dogs have been used across Europe for centuries to protect livestock. CCF has been breeding and placing dogs on farms in HWC hot spots for 25+ years.
These incredible dogs are extremely large and use their imposing presence and loud bark to protect livestock and reduce HWC - saving cheetahs and improving livelihoods.
For rural subsistence farmers, even the loss of one animal can be financially devastating so having a CCF LGD is life changing.
Livestock guarding dogs have been instrumental in reducing livestock losses and HWC across the cheetah’s range.
Farmers who use LGDs report a 70 - 100% decrease in predation rates. Since 1994, CCF has placed more than 670 dogs with farmers in Namibia.
Livestock guarding dogs have become CCF’s ‘paws on the ground’ partners in conservation and farmers’ best friend but there is a 4-year waiting list.
Funding from #UnitingForCheetahs will help CCF to increase the number of livestock guarding dogs actively working on farms across Namibia as the most effective predator control tool.
