Story
100km. 4 of us. 30 hours. 24/25 September 2021....
After the long and difficult year of 2020, we decided to challenge ourselves to the max by participating in Oxfam's Trailwalker challenge. Our goal is to walk 100km over the beautiful south downs in under 30 hours. No stopping for sleepovers! We will be kitted out with head torches, good pairs of walking shoes, a few snacks and our conversation to keep us company (although we may run out of things to say!). We will be cheered on along the way by our fabulous Support Crew made up of Will, Ainsley, Leon & Leigh who will be armed with blister plasters, cups of tea, clean socks & words of encouragement (hopefully!)
Exercise TRAILWALKER started out as a military training exercise in Hong Kong in 1981. Organised by the Queen’s Gurkha Signals, and taking place along the famous Maclehose Trail, the exercise sought to test the endurance and teamwork of soldiers of the Queen’s Gurkha Signals over a long and arduous course.
In 1986, Trailwalker was opened to civilian participation for the first time, and now, following the move of the Queen’s Gurkha Signals to the UK, the 100k event takes place across the South Downs, with hundreds of civilians setting off alongside the Gurkhas.
Jo is also doing the walk in memory of her wonderful Dad who loved walking. He would be really proud of our efforts and would be cheering us on from the sidelines!
Trailwalker UK supports the incredible work of both Oxfam Great Britain and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
