Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
6th April 2025, we are both running a half-marathon to raise funds for two causes that have profoundly impacted our family. We’re running together but raising funds for different charities: Sarah will be running for Parkinson’s UK, while Nigel will be dedicating his run to Dementia UK.
For Sarah, this race is in honour of her mum, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s over 23 years ago and, in the past two years, has also developed Parkinson’s dementia. The treatments available have greatly improved her quality of life, yet we still have so far to go. Parkinson’s remains a complex disease that impacts movement, memory, and independence. Our hope is to see a future where no one has to experience these struggles.
For Nigel, Dementia UK holds personal significance as we’ve witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of mixed dementia. This cruel disease doesn’t just impact the person diagnosed—it ripples through entire families, challenging everyone involved. Dementia now affects nearly a million people in the UK, with cases steadily rising. Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses provide essential support, helping families navigate the complexities of dementia with compassion and expertise. Unfortunately, dementia care and research remain significantly underfunded, and so we’re running to make a difference.
Running isn’t easy for either of us, but it feels like the best way to honour the resilience of our loved ones and give back to the organisations that support families like ours. Your support—whether big or small—means the world to us and to those who are still fighting these diseases. By donating, you’ll help fund life-changing research and support, bringing us closer to a future where Parkinson’s and dementia no longer hold such devastating power.
Please join us in this journey. Let’s make every mile count!
