Story
In January 2026, I’ll be cycling 1000 miles coast-to-coast across South America to raise money for a cause that is close to my heart - CALM, the suicide prevention charity.
However you lose someone you love, it’s hard. Losing someone from suicide carries extra weight. Should I have done more? Did I miss the signs? What could have been?
This page’s cover photo is me and my dad on a smiley day out in September 2015. One week later, he had ended it all. Dad was the kindest person, someone who would do anything for those he loved. His last words on the note that he left behind were that he loved his family and that he was very sorry. No-one knew he was struggling with his mental health: if he had got help, then things could have been very different.
I’ve thought & thought about something to do in dad’s memory. I’m not sure whether he ever would have sought help … but someone else will and this is why I want to raise money for CALM.
Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is a suicide prevention charity. They’ve got loads of tools and resources to help people find the support they need, including a life-saving helpline for people who can’t see a way forward, have lost someone to suicide, or are worried about their friends or loved ones.
£12.20 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.
All of the money raised will go directly to the charity (the trip is self funded).
