Story
Nicki Jackson (McDermott) sadly passed away on Sunday 15th December 2024, following a brave 28 month battle against Leukaemia (AML).
Nicki received world class care at UCLH in London, but alongside the NHS services, she received a huge amount of support from 3 charities that she desperately wanted to raise money for as soon as she was back to full health.
Sadly, she never got that chance, so we are now looking to raise at least £1,500 in her memory for each of the 3 charities that she wanted to support. As well as helping Nicki, they provide support to millions of cancer patients and their families all across the UK.
I witnessed first hand how much these charities helped Nicki (and myself), and how small touches like free massage and reflexology treatments, or a snack trolley that gave her an afternoon Jaffa Cake treat, made a huge difference to her mental wellbeing during those tough times. And that is without mentioning the free counselling services, huge library of information and guidance, the army of volunteers, and the additional medical equipment and training that these charities help to provide.
I know how much Nicki would have appreciated ANY amount that you’re able to kindly donate to these charities, and I thank you in advance on her behalf. I know that this will make her very happy, and it is the least that we can do for her given the amount of happiness that she spread into our lives.
The 3 charities are:
Anthony Nolan
Haematology Cancer Care (showing as UCLH Charity)
MacMillan Cancer Support
You only need to donate to one of the charities, but Nicki would have wanted to support them all equally, so please let's try to make sure that they all end up with roughly equal amounts of total donations.
If you are unable to donate financially, then please consider donating blood instead, and preferably please do both! Nicki required frequent blood and platelet infusions, and always felt guilty about how much of the supply she was using. If we could add more blood back into the supply than she used then that would also be a fitting tribute to her.
Thank you!
