We support those with special needs to create homes and build skills

Story

This year we are taking part in the Aberdeen Kilt Walk. We are looking for teams to help support our goal. We are trying to raise funds for our Capital Development Fund. Our current project is to build a new Bakery and Confectionery. For those who know us, our Bakery and Confectionery are very popular. Baking fabulous artisan breads, delicious cakes, and the best scones and croissants (at least in my opinion!).

We work together with adults with learning difficulties and other special needs to build skills and provide meaningful work. We focus on what we can do, not what our disabilities are.

But our current Bakery and Confectionery building is old and worn. And the required repairs would mean closing the workshops for over a year to carry out all the required work. So instead, we plan to build a new building up near our Store and Cafe. This would also help us reduce traffic through the centre of our village, which is mostly pedestrianised to ensure that our adults with special needs can walk around safely, and put all our shops in the same convenient location.

The new Bakery and Confectionery will also be much more efficient, reducing our running costs for heating, and it will improve the layout and function of the spaces.

This will also allow us to look at the old Bakery and Confectionery site in the future, without having to close down a busy and loved workshop.
